NERIDA SEAHORSE PENDANT 18ct Gold Vermeil | Amethysts
The unique nature of the seahorse means that is has a fairly rich symbolic history across a variety of cultures, from Ancient Greece to China. Believed to be a symbol of strength and power, but also of patience and contentment the seahorse has long been considered a good luck talisman for sailors.
In Greece, the name ‘Nerida’ means ‘mermaid’ or ‘sea nymph’. Over 13,500 kilometres away, ‘Nerida’ is an Australian aboriginal name for a ‘pink water lily’ or ‘red blossom’. Our Nerida seahorse is the perfect gift for any nomad who seeks meaning in travel and new places.
The Wild and Fine range of seahorses is created using antique specimens from a private natural history collection, which were returned in pristine condition once Jess had finished with them. Any gemstones used have been ethically sourced.

The traditional birthstone for February, Amethyst is associated with St Valentine and with faithful love. The word Amethyst comes from the Greek word ametusthos, which means “not intoxicated” and throughout history Amethyst has been linked to preventing drunkenness and over-indulgence. Obviously the Ancient Greeks and Romans had their own special take on this, routinely inlaying Amethyst in their goblets to prevent the wine within from having the power to intoxicate (rather than using it to help them stop drinking in the first place!)
Today amethyst is associated with contentment, wisdom and understanding. It is a talisman for focus and success that is believed to calm hot tempers.
