September Birthstone: Sapphire
The word sapphire comes from the Greek word “Sapphirus”, which means blue, although Sapphires can be many different colours, including black, green and yellow. However, you will never find a red one, as sapphires are from the corundum family of gemstones and a red corundum is actually a ruby.
Traditionally associated with royalty, sapphires are believed to attract abundance, blessings and gifts. They are also associated with dispelling negative energy and wearing sapphire jewellery is said to offer protection from evil and harm.
Almost as durable as a diamond, sapphires are a popular choice for jewellery that you wear every day, such as an engagement or eternity rings. One of the most famous Sapphire rings belonged to Princess Diana and is now worn by the Duchess of Cambridge.
