RAM’S HORN SHELL CHARM NECKLACE Sterling Silver

This spiral shell is actually not a shell at all, but the internal skeleton of a small, shy squid-like creature called Spirula spirula, which lives deep in tropical and sub-tropical seas. Although ram’s horn shells are commonly found on beaches all over the world, a Spirula spirula is a very rare sight indeed.

Usually found at a beach's high-tide line, these curious coiled calling cards of one of the ocean's most elusive residents are a reminder of how much uncharted territory and uncatalogued life exists in the depths of our seas.
